This is the start of my commentary on the bible. I will be going over the entire bible very slowly. Starting in the New Testament then jumping back to Genesis until Malachi. I will go off into side tangents a lot and it will not follow a normal commentary style. Most commentaries choose to exegete (interpret/explain) scripture to explain what the meaning of the text is. I feel like the majority of scripture is pretty clear and there are already so many commentaries on the bible it wouldn’t make sense for me to do the same. I may do that for some passages that I have been touched deeply by to get my perspective on it.
My goal is to go over and cover the more obscure stuff you might get taught in seminary. Such as historical context, archeology for the passage, language differences and deeper meanings, proofs for doctrines (or proofs against false doctrines), mini topical sermons, and hidden gems the Holy Spirit has revealed to me over the years.
With that in mind, my commentary can be jarring without this knowledge as there won’t usually be a through-line topic for each chapter. As you can see in the first chapter, Matthew 1, I talk about the genealogy of Jesus (through Mary), typology of Jesus in the gifts and his birth, and Mary not being a forever virgin. Some topics I may turn into full on posts such as why the major apostles were fishermen and some I will just leave as is {unless I get requests to expound on them) such as Jesus living in Capernaum.
I will include the entirety of the bible via the NIV translation in my blog posts. So, if you wanted to read these commentaries as a form of daily or weekly bible study feel free! Let me know via email if there is anything you think I should add. This will be done in my spare time so don’t expect this series to finish quickly. I’m expecting 3-4 years to finish it.
